The inaugural Global Medical Forum (GMF I) was held in the Fall of 2001 in Pontresina, Switzerland, and was attended by decision-makers and innovators from the governmental, private and corporate healthcare sectors from around the world. Most importantly, and fundamental to the goals of the conference, its participants included world leaders, chief executives and journalists with the decision-making power to influence the future of the industry. This key group included the health ministers of major Eastern and Western nations as well as important personages from international institutions such as the World Health Organization. GMF I featured distinguished speakers and panels discussing critical issues ranging from the future of healthcare as a whole to the key role of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical technology industries in healthcare development.
This interactive DVD (for use with Mac or PC) is the second in a series of digital publications by the Global Medical Forum Foundation intended to clarify for global decision-makers, in an unbiased format, the key issues in healthcare. The lectures here included were delivered on 18 and 19 September 2001, just days after the events of 11 September, and reflect on medical technology and the future of healthcare. The four speakers bring four different angles to the development and usage of medical technology. Each speaker was asked to present his or her sectors views on medical innovation and its costs in the context of the current healthcare debate. |
