Opening Plenary Session: An introduction to the main issues of the conference

This first plenary session of GMF III presented an overview of current pressing issues in medicine and healthcare delivery seen through the prism of the various attempts by many different sectors to improve the well-being of humankind.

The outcome of the session was not a general theory of healthcare discovery or delivery – such as that analogous to Herbert Spencer’s “General Theory of Evolution” – but rather an education in the array of tools currently at the disposal of the global civilization’s medical leaders.

To achieve this goal, the program mixed science and public policy – innovation in both realms – in order to encourage meaningful debate over the three days of the conference.
