The modern hospital remains the major pillar in the healthcare delivery systems of all countries. It is the facility through which innovation is introduced both scientifically and cost-effectively. The complexity of the modern hospital is hard to match. The health professionals therein treat patients, teach residents, run laboratories, raise money, and attend endless committee meetings. In addition they must keep abreast or ahead of the vast scientific literature in their field in order to ensure that their patients receive the latest and best therapies and that their basic and clinical research pursuits make sense and will be funded. Is this system sustainable in its current form in the Middle East? What are the most innovative technologies that can be applied in the regional evolution of the modern hospital? While there is no universally applicable "center of excellence model" that will work equally well in all societies, there is a great deal to be learned by understanding, modifying, and adapting various paradigms to suit particular country needs. This session will explore applicable models with a focus on specific systems of interest to professionals in the region. |
